United Nations Perception Change Project

The Programme for the Study of International Governance has long-standing relationship with the UN Office Geneva and other Geneva-based organisations. The relationship was further consolidated with the Programme becoming an official academic partner of the UN Office of Geneva’s Perception Change Project (PCP). Launched by the UNOG in January 2014, the PCP promotes the impact and relevance of the work of actors in International Geneva.

 Recent activities

  • Under the purview of the UN's Perception Change Project, the Programme for the Study of International Governance organized an expert meeting with scholars and leading figures of Geneva-based international organisations and institutions. Entitled “Defining International Geneva in November of 2014”, experts discussed the views of "international Geneva" from different perspectives, including the host city, canton, federation, international organisations and abroad.
  • The Programme for the Study of International Governance conducted a survey of members of ACUNS (Academic Council on the United Nations System) at the end of 2014. ACUNS members were asked about their experiences conducting research in and on topics relating to Geneva. Recommendations based on the survey's results were incorporated in the UN Library's guide for researchers coming to Geneva to work on the UN and its related agencies.

Current status

  • The Programme undertook a review of research initiatives from the Graduate Institute, including projects by its research centres and programmes, publications by the faculty, as well as graduate dissertations. The research was clustered according to the nature of the studies and it will be incorporated in a Data Book currently being prepared by the Perception Change Project team at the UN. It will showcase key research undertaken at the Graduate Institute in the public and policy domains.
  • The Graduate Institute will participate at the upcoming UN Open Day, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the United Nations. The Programme for the Study of International Governance will be the key partner at the event, engaging the broader Geneva public.
