Application Procedure

The application procedure requires a little time and effort. Please ensure that the Institute offers a programme that meets your aspirations, especially by examining the contents of this programme.

Your complete application will be assessed by a committee of professors who will evaluate in particular your academic performance, letters of recommendation, and motivation letter. The committee’s decision is final.

The main requirement to apply for one of our master degree programmes is a bachelor degree, or a degree deemed equivalent, in the social sciences, from an accredited university*.

The main requirement to apply for one of our PhD programmes is a master degree, or a degree deemed equivalent, in the social sciences, from an accredited university*; and, to the extent possible, a master level research dissertation completed successfully.

Please note that you are eligible to apply during the last year of your current study programme, provided you obtain your final degree by September 2019.
*Institutional accreditation by aaq.ch or the designated accreditation agency in the county of operation, subject to current policies

* Referees will have an additional week to submit their reference letters
** Confirmation requires payment of a CHF 1,000 pre-registration fee, deducted from the first tuition invoice
- It is not possible to apply for financial aid in the late application deadline
- It is not possible to apply for housing in the late application deadline
- Late applications will be considered per available space in each programme
- Late applications carry an additional application fee
- Admitted students will start their studies at the Institute in September 2019
- Admission decisions will be notified by letter, in electronic format only
A 5-Step Application Process
- Complete the online application form
- Pay the application fee
- 15 November and 15 January deadlines: CHF 100
- 1st March deadline: CHF 200
- Provide contact details for two academic referees (also on the application form)
- Upload all your supporting documents (see Application Checklist) before the deadline (see above). All your documents will need to be uploaded onto the online application form; please do not send them by e-mail or regular mail
- Validate your application by clicking on "Submit"
